Since then, an information centre and ecological research station have been established in the area amongst other additions. The park sits 145m above sea level, and unusually the karst lake is full year round. As the park is in the North of Vietnam, it experiences four seasons with temperatures just below zero in the coldest months to the mid thirties in the hottest months. The area has long been inhabited by small ethnic minority communities and was also occupied by a number of permanent French residents during the French colonial era.
Only 200 km north of the bustling capital of Hanoi, Ba Be National Park is the epitome of wild and untamed nature. This magic of this area is the rich and diverse landscapes it offers. The park is made up of rich tropical forests centred around a large natural freshwater lake and soaring limestone karsts laced with caves and grottoes. This variation offers fantastic opportunities for exploration from boat trips to kayaking, caving, trekking and cycling. As well as stunning scenery and fresh, clean air, Ba Be is the perfect place to discover some of the ethnic minority communities in Vietnam. The communities dotted around Ba Be Lake have retained their traditional way of life, living in traditional houses and relying heavily on fishing and agriculture. A visit to Ba Be will also showcase the warmth and hospitality of the local people who welcome tourists into their towns with the hope of sharing their culture.
